Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services

Interested in Having Furry Friends Visits At Your Facility?

Thank you for your interest in Furry Friends. The following information describes our program in more detail and outlines the process we use to certify new facilities. If you have any questions you can call our office at 1-877-4FF-PATS or send email to board@furryfriends.org.  Click here for information on Special Visit requests.

Please note: Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services is an all volunteer organization with no full time staff. We always try to respond as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A one-time, non-refundable application fee of $100 is required.

It is difficult for our organization to do day-time visits, as many of our volunteers also have full-time jobs. Weekend and evening visits are more likely to be accommodated.

Where We Visit

Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services works with facilities throughout the San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties of northern California.

We do not perform services at individual’s homes nor do we allow our our volunteers to do one-on-one visits.

We work at hospitals, convalescent homes, assisted living facilities, senior centers, mental health facilities, Alzheimer units, hospices, children’s facilities and shelters.

How Our Visits Work

Our program works on a team concept. No team can be approved without a team captain. We have a number of volunteers who might be interested in captaining the team at your site. Alternatively, you might want to have one of your staff members join Furry Friends (they don’t need a pet to join) and have that individual be the team captain.

Our Insurance Coverage

Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services maintains a $1 million insurance policy. It protects your staff and residents should one of our volunteers or their animals cause any damage. It is important to note that since our inception in 1983, Furry Friends has never needed to make a claim against our insurance policy.

Process to Become a New Site

The approval process starts by filling out the form and paying the $100 New Site Fee via PayPal or check .  Print and mail/fax/email the application form to us.

If your site is not approved, your fee will be refunded.

Once we receive your application and fee, we will then contact you to schedule a 15-minute phone conversation to explain our program to you and to review your requirements. After that we will arrange for an on-site visit by one of our volunteers with their animal.

The volunteer will provide a written assessment to our board of directors for review and action.

Special Visit Requests

Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services provides “Special Visits” throughout the South and East Bay Areas as a part of our mission. These visits include Stress Relief, Health and Wellness, and Community events. Due to insurance liability, we require that our Special Visit form be completely filled out.

Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services' mission is to consistently facilitate delivery of the love and affection of our volunteers and their pets. We enhance the lives and touch the hearts of people with special needs. Those visits that are not in line with our Mission will not be accepted.

Furry Friends is a non-profit organization. Due to the complexity of arranging these visits, we require a $100 application fee for each visit. This is payable at the time of the application. Click here to pay by PayPal, or mail a check for $100 with this form to Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services, P.O. Box 5099, San Jose, CA 95150. Should your organization not have the financial means for this fee, please email our Board of Directors at board@furryfriends.org

We will not accept Special Visit requests that are less than 60 days prior to the event. In general, our visits typically last one hour. Our visit team will include a Captain and team members with their Furry Friends.

Once identifying a location for the visit, we request that you be mindful of weather conditions and venue size to accommodate the number of animals requested. Please refer to the detailed guidelines on the form. We will contact you as soon as the form is processed.
